MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) - Vermont is one step closer to banning toxic forever chemicals from more consumer products.

The Vermont Senate on Tuesday gave preliminary approval to legislation keeping PFAS out of dental floss, cleaning products, and other items.

The measure, which passed the House in March, would also outlaw the use of PFAS in firefighting gear and fluorine-treated containers.

Advocates say it’s a critical step in reducing Vermonters’ exposure to harmful substances.
