APEC CEO Summit 2022: Transition to renewal economic perspectives for Asia Pacific inclusive growth

Economic resilience amid untamed inflation and rising global interest rates, along with high energy prices, are no longer today’s challenges for countries around the world to overcome.

In light of the post-Covid economic recovery, many countries the world over are experiencing supply chain disruption, preventing international trade from exporting and importing goods to significant commercial hubs and the rest of the world. Food insecurity among other pandemic sequels has therefore become more severe than ever before and transcended into other pressing issues including climate change and public healthcare among other priorities. 

Policy makers and enterprise executives are nudged to take cautious steps prior to laying out plans for years to come. Careful formulation of economic development plans is the key to survive and thrive forward. 

The APEC CEO Summit 2022: Embrace, Engage, Enable, one of the worlds highly followed conferences and prestigious conventions will be the platform where the business sector of the Asia Pacific economies gathers. The CEO Summit will be an opportune venue for chairpersons, CEOs and top business executives to exchange views on economic outlooks and recommend actions that could be shared across the region.

The APEC CEO Summit 2022 will be hosted face-to-face for the first time in three years, in Bangkok, Thailand, from 16 November to 18 November 2022. The three-day window of opportunity is opened for exchanges of views, best practices, and strategies for sustainable and inclusive growth in the region. 

“Each of the 21 member economies hold diverse strengths in areas of economic development and investment expertise. In facing the reality of today, our previous credentials and successful economic growth require a resurgence approach to achieve the pre-Covid performance figures as well as driving forward sustainability,” announced Dr. Poj Aramwattananont, ABAC Thailand Member and APEC CEO Summit 2022 Chair.”

ABAC, or APEC Business Advisory Council, was established by APEC economic leaders in 1995 to advise leaders and APEC officials on issues relating to business and economy. ABAC formed and worked with various issues working groups to focus on specific sector and industry to formulate the appropriate recommendation and course of action.  Specific areas that ABAC worked on are Financial and Economy, Sustainability, Digitalization, Regional Economic Integration, and MSME and inclusion. 

As the world is transitioning to a new economy in many sectors, many new industries will emerge and will require new standards of operating.  Prominent areas include electric vehicles (EV) and high-performance lithium-ion batteries manufacturing, green industries, food and alternative food, to name a few.  Thailand can share many of cases studies that are based in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) where many have operated and going through this transition. 

Food for the Future, the new trend for food market expansion has seen Thailand become an agriculture powerhouse offering enriched farming landscapes and large-scale workforces utilizing advance digital technology to gain enhanced yield and nutrition standards as well as other advantages that the markets demand. 

“At the APEC CEO summit this year, delegates from across the Asia Pacific region will be meeting in person, to connect, exchange views and understand the coming ever more complex economic landscape. Key topics to be discussed include Innovation, the Global Economy and Future of APEC Trade and Investment, Food and Energy crisis, Circular Economy in Practice, Digital Economy, Inclusive Growth, and Healthcare after the Pandemic,” added Kasemsit Pathomsak, ABAC Alternate Member and Executive Director, APEC CEO Summit 2022. 

“As the host country, we will be showcasing Thai hospitality and our diverse culture, and food. Delegates will experience up-close hospitality from the time they land and go through the various receptions and banquet we have prepared. 

APEC CEO Summit will be held at The Athenee Hotel, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Bangkok located at the heart of Bangkok.  Delegates will be welcomed on the first evening at the River Park, Icon Siam, where Bangkok old town spectacles relay historical prosperity alongside ultra-luxurious shopping spaces. The gala dinner will be on the 17th of November 2022 at the Royal Paragon Hall, Siam Paragon, showcasing Thai epicurean and international dishes in an elegant setting.
