The Papua New Guinea intelligence community converged to refresh, up-skill and strengthen the network for the APEC meetings last month in Port Moresby.

Members from the PNG intelligence community participated in the development of procedures for cooperation between PNG government departments.

Australian Federal Police acting Superintendent Tim Ayers said: “The coordination of intelligence collection for APEC events was identified as a primary role for the Joint Security Task Force (JSTF) Intelligence Unit.”

“The workshop discussed various topics including a joint intelligence structure, information flow, and roles and responsibilities of intelligence agencies.

“The provision of accurate and timely intelligence in support of APEC security operations was also identified as a primary role of the Unit. Intelligence sharing between the PNG intelligence community and security partners is critical to ensure a safe and secure APEC,” he said.

The workshop is in line with the APEC JSTF ongoing commitment to plan and prepare for a safe and secured environment for the APEC leaders and delegates meeting in PNG.
