Treasurer Scott Morrison is heading to Vietnam for official talks with finance ministers from 21 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation countries.
Among the key issues on the agenda will be multinational tax avoidance and ways to boost trade and investment.
On the sidelines of the summit, Mr Morrison is expected to meet the Vietnamese prime minister and sign a deal to increase co-operation with Australia on economic issues.
He'll also have bilateral talks with finance ministers from Singapore, Chinese Taipei and Thailand.
"I will be emphasising to my APEC counterparts the importance of open markets to ensure that our region remains the engine of global growth," Mr Morrison said in a statement.
