US solar developer Chaberton Energy and renewables owner and operator Pivot Energy said on Wednesday that they have started partial operation of a 4.3-MWdc community and commercial solar farm called Project Catherine in Howard County in the US state of Maryland.

The solar farm, located on a 19-acre (7.7 ha) site on the property of St. Mary Coptic Orthodox Church in Cooksville, combines three projects into one and blends three different business models.

A 3.4-MWdc portion of the capacity will be available to community solar subscribers via the Maryland Community Solar programme, 750 kW is dedicated to non-profit Loyola University Maryland under a power purchase agreement (PPA), and the balance will be supplied directly to St. Mary Church to offset its on-site load, Chaberton and Pivot Energy said.

The St. Mary community will also benefit from solar land lease payments.

The projects were originally developed by Chaberton and recently acquired by Pivot, a portfolio company of Energy Capital Partners (ECP).
